Actively discover history
The TOP border hiking trail Schifflersgrund offers an attractive discovery tour through the former border region between Hesse and Thuringia. Numerous border relics and the species-rich natural landscape of the “Green ribbones” can be discovered along the way.
The trail leads through the former border villages of Sickenberg and Asbach and along the former border between Bad Sooden-Allendorf and Wahlhausen. The 10 large information panels along the way are a quality feature. They convey border history(ies) to historical places.
Discovery tour
The border hiking trail is a in total 11 kilometer long circuitwanderaway with more varied and partly demanding routing. Who does not dare to do the “big round”can itself for the 7 kilometers long Sickenberg-Asbach circuit or the 4 Kilometers long Heierkopf-Wahlhausen-Round decide.
Border history for children
The border hiking trail includes a digital “search for traces along the way”. Dieses offer is aimed especially for children, families and school classes. QR codes on the information panels lead lead to an interactive 360° lernllandscape.
Here you can see the former course of the border, listen to border stories in language suitable for children and solve small search tasks along the way.
The project won the DigAMus Award in 2024, making it one of the best digital projects in German museums.

Guided hikes
The Schifflersgrund Border Museum offers guided hikes for school classes and adults. Familien werden every year on World Children’s Day invited to a free discovery tourinvited.
