From March 8 to June 30, we are showing the special exhibition “Women in Divided Germany” at the Border Museum.
The poster exhibition shows clichés and realities of life for women in East and West, some of which still exist today. Even more than three decades after reunification, we (and women) still encounter attributions such as the “homebody at the stove”, the “career woman” or the “raven mother”. But do we really know exactly what makes THE Eastern woman and THE Western woman tick? On a tour of the exhibition, it quickly becomes clear that they actually tick pretty much the same way, but in comparison to each other, they are somehow also very different.
The exhibition was curated by Clara Marz and published by the Federal Foundation for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship. The content deals with topics such as family, fashion, emancipation, politics and the common striving for self-determination in a male-dominated system. QR codes refer to in-depth video interviews and other audiovisual materials on the Internet.
The new special exhibition can be visited daily until June 30, 2025 during regular opening hours from 10 am to 5 pm. You are cordially invited!
