“For me, it’s important to preserve
history for my descendantsas a contemporary witness”

(Ursel Lange, contemporary witness from Asbach-Sickenberg)

First-hand experience reports

Contemporary witnesses play an important role at the memorial. At events, they talk about their experiences, give interviews and talk to school classes or guide and accompany groups of visitors. Since 2020, we have also had a digital and constantly growing archive of eyewitness interviews, which we use for research and educational purposes.
Excerpts from these interviews can be seen, for example, in our new permanent exhibition, are used in workshops or prepared for the eyewitness portal of the Hessian State Agency for Civic Education.
